Are you dissatisfied with how your breasts lost their shape and volume after pregnancy, weight loss, or with aging? Are you breasts not the same size or shape? Do you want larger, fuller breasts? If you answered yes to any of these, Breast Augmentation just may be the solution for you.

Our Approach

At Associates in Plastic & Aesthetic Surgery (APAS), our individualized approach means that you’ll receive the most up-to-date information about the available implant types and procedures. Dr. Richard Tepper and Dr. Jerrold Zeitels are available for consultation.

Some practices will tell you that all of their patients choose gel implants…or that all of their patients choose to become a size “D”… but not the doctors at Associates in Plastic & Aesthetic Surgery (APAS) in Springfield, NJ.

Our Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons will thoroughly discuss with you all that you need to make an informed decision.  This includes:

  • Implant location, such as under or over the chest muscle.
  • Incision location, such as in the crease under the breast, at the edge of the areola, or in the axilla.
  • Implant type, such as saline or gel, the degree of projection, shape, and surface feel, such as smooth or textured.
  • Implant-related factors such as longevity, cancer screening, potential adverse events such as capsular contracture.
  • Many other factors necessary for you to make an informed decision.
  • Some patients will experience slight “rippling” in the breast skin.  This is something that occasionally happens and is not a complication of surgery. Very large implants, thin skin, and some other factors may predispose to this.
  • Although gel implants have once again grown in popularity, some women still prefer saline-filled implants.

Our philosophy is clear. You will receive an individualized assessment to determine what’s best for you. And that means that your opinion matters the most. We will guide you and offer information and suggestions. But it is your body that will be changing and as such, you need to be completely comfortable with your surgeon and the plan.

The Procedure

  • Breast Augmentation surgery is performed in either a hospital or fully-accredited ambulatory surgery center.
  • Most patients choose general anesthesia but IV sedation is possible.
  • The selected implant is placed through a small incision into the desired location.  The incision is sutured in layers.
  • We employ a “no-touch” technique to minimize implant-related issues, such as capsule formation.

The Recovery

  • Patients typically go home the same day in a surgical bra or ace bandage.
  • You may experience moderate pain for 2-3 days, followed by soreness that lasts for a week or two.
  • You may experience mild to moderate swelling and a little bruising.
  • Patients often return to work after a week.
  • Sutures are removed in 1-2 weeks.
  • Many light activities are resumed within the first week, with return to normal activity in 4-6 weeks.

Results

After breast enhancement, your implants may appear a bit high on your chest for the first few weeks. This is a normal occurrence and after about 3 weeks, the implants will settle into their natural position. Your breasts will be fuller and shapelier. Patient satisfaction is extremely high after breast augmentation.
