USE: To eliminate brown spots on the face or wrinkles around the mouth. The treatment is highly successful for blending scars or flattening elevated scars in certain individuals. This technique is less desirable with certain skin types.
PROCEDURE: An office based procedure under local anesthesia, dermabrasion removes the more superficial layers of skin which may remove brown spots, soften wrinkles or diminish the visibility of some scars.
RESULTS: Dermabrasion is highly successful at removing small superficial brown spots of “age” and “sun” spots or enlarging freckles. It is also highly successful at diminishing wrinkles around the mouth. This does require a healing period of at least a week or two. Permanent discoloration such as lightening of the skin color may occur.
